Your Autumn Style Guide:
Through the eyes of Lorelai Gilmore…
The nights are getting shorter, days are getting colder and cosying up with a hot tea and Gilmore Girls on is becoming a nightly ritual. Which means we’re seeing a lot of long coats, sweaters, and coffee.
So, it’s time to channel our inner Lorelai and dress to impress (and keep warm) this autumn. Whether you’re going back to school, Uni or just starting a new season at your usual job, why not romanticise the cosiest time of year through boots, scarfs, and leather gloves.
Let’s start off with a checklist, one that could have been written by Lorelai Gilmore herself.
Coffee:
Now, I know this isn’t an accessory, but in Stars Hollow, it may as well be. If caffeine isn’t your thing, try a hot chocolate or decaf tea. B&M have the best takeaway coffee cups to transform your commute to work into the starting scene of Season 2, Episode 5.
For a more environmentally friendly option, a re-usable travel mug is perfect. This will also save you money on those £6 Starbucks. Save yourself £30 a week, put it towards a new scarf!
Leather / Pleather:
Lorelai is often seen in a leather blazer or jacket, layered on top of a turtleneck sweater. She pairs this with leather boots and uses the sandwich method to bring everything together.
You can see something similar in the links below:
Leather isn’t just for jackets though, M&S have a stunning, autumnal two piece. Perfect for a meeting, dinner or even a business class in Hartford.
Wine:
And no, unfortunately not the drink. But the colour. From jumpers to bags the wine colour is this seasons black. Lorelai can often be seen in a burgundy turtleneck or midi skirt.
If you prefer a more neutral colour as a base, Zara has the perfect wine coloured bag to add a subtle pop to your outfit:

Long Coats:
Whether it be a trench or a ‘chuck-on’, a knee length coat is the key to keeping warm in the Autumn chill. For a morning walk to Luke’s, a stroll around the Autumn Fair or the morning commute to the Inn, there’s a coat for all occasions.
Trench coats can vary in colour, you could even have one to match each bag. Black, tan, brown or cream. And if the knee / floor length isn’t for you? A cropped jacket is the answer to your problem.
Though a lot of the pieces on the checklist could be considered specific to occasion, some Lorelai basics consist of flares, headbands, fur-lined denim jackets and a “my whole life fits inside this” tote bag. Oh… and don’t forget a waterproof puffer jacket, that one will last you through winter too!
The end of summer can be dull for a lot of people. Though the nights are closing in and the bikinis find their way to the back of the wardrobe, finding time to romanticise the little things can really help. Coffee, outfits, selfcare evenings.
And to those who are Autumn lovers like myself, welcome to the ‘ber’ months.
