The 26th edition of the MOBO awards:

And a list of all the winners:

MOBO winners article

Last night, the 26th edition of the MOBO Awards took place at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena. Being from Sheffield myself, it felt surreal seeing stars such as Love Island’s Dami Hope and Grime artist Bugzy Malone in my hometown. Other attendees consisted of podcast duo Shxtsngigs, ex-Sheffield University student, comedian and previous MOBO presenter Munya Chawawa and singer-songwriter Beverly Knight. It was Sheffield’s first time hosting the event.

The awards show, which is held in a different location each year, celebrates ‘music of black origin’ and artists from genres such as grime, drill and hip-hop. The first ceremony was held back in 1996, founded by CBE Kanya King, receiving her title for her dedication and services to music and culture. Previous years have seen performances from Tina Turner, Destiney’s Child and Craig David.

The show was hosted by Indiyah Polack and Babatunde Aléshé with reports from the audience being conducted by Zeze Mills.

Dame Jessica Ennis Hill, from Sheffield, told ITV “I’m so proud it’s in Sheffield… I think it’s brilliant”. Sheffield’s residents continued to do the city proud with the Sheffield Community Choir singing Stormzy’s “Blinded by Your Grace”.

Every year sees a selection of iconic performances, and this year was no different. Byron Messia opened the show, followed by stars such as The Sugababes, Cristale and many more.
