Welcome back girlhood, VS we have missed you!
After over half a decade, the Victoria’s Secret catwalk returned, the nostalgia is real. From famous faces to iconic new ideas, the fashion show ALMOST had it all...
Victorias Secret tried to devise its 2024 fashion show as a major comeback. The VS fashion shows have always been a significant event in the fashion industry and last night’s show continued that tradition with a spectacular display. The atmosphere from attendees and those watching from home was electric.
We got to see their new collections which featured a mix of classic Victoria’s Secret aesthetics and modern twists. We saw the staple ‘VS’ baby pink and diamante straps alongside the ribbon/bow trend making its way into the runway.
One of the focal points of the show was the return of the original angels, VS graced the runway with the likes of Adriana Lima, Taylor Hill, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, Candice Swanepoel and the one and only Tyra Banks. Aside from the original angels making a return we also got to witness the icon herself Kate Moss make her Victoria’s Secret fashion show debut alongside her daughter Lila Moss, wearing wings with her name included in the design.
The underwear experts also wanted to emphasize their efforts for inclusivity by including models of various sizes and backgrounds this even spanned out into their choices of dancers.
This years wings really highlighted the craftmanship behind each set, they added allure and emphasis on just how gorgeous this years collection is.
Sadly there was some noticeable missing parts to the show that were impossible to miss. First being the fantasy bra, this became one of the focal points of every show and something every VS fan looks forward to. We were also missing the PINK section of the show which led to critics slamming the show for lacking its usual ‘fun-factor’ .
The models weren’t the only people stunning the runway, the musical performers also looked absolutely incredible and all four brought their A game. The show started with a performance from Lisa, the singer from Blackpink, and we then got to see Tyla strut her stuff performing her new hit song and a fan favourite.
We then watched Kate Moss make her VS debut to Orianthi giving us a striking guitar solo, finishing off with the one and only Cher who created a beautiful atmosphere for the models to walk their final section of the show.
These artists perfectly complimented the fashion and each section of the show. The synergy between the music and the fashion created an unforgettable atmosphere for viewers.
Watching the show felt incredibly nostalgic for myself and I had no clue what to expect, actively studying previous fashion shows over the year I had high hopes which seemed to be a collective view pre-show.
I personally think the show was incredible and although there has been mixed opinions I think it’s important to bare in mind the brands budget is not what it used to be and the show may have reflected this in certain aspects but overall it gave us all a sense of our girlhood back and took us right back to the golden era.
I will say I did really miss the fantasy bra, the PINK section and also the classic Victoria’s Secret angel bouncy blow-dry look, the brand appeared to be incorporating relevance by using slick back hairstyle which we know and love for everyday life but it wasn’t quite what we expected for the shows return.
Aside from these negatives the designs, models , wings and performances are the focal point and in my personal opinion VS did an impeccable job with these.
